Joining at a pivotal stage
This time, we’re spotlighting Charlie Hobbs, Director of North America Go-to-Market.
For Charlie, Sprout.ai stood out because of where the business was in its journey and the opportunity that came with it.
“I wanted to join a startup where I could have real influence and where the work I did mattered. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset, from building a startup in my twenties to running catering businesses, so after spending time at large public companies, I wanted to get back to building something from the ground up.”
Sprout’s position as a scaling Series A company made the opportunity even more compelling.
“Sprout is at that inflection point where product-market fit is secured, and the focus becomes scaling, repeating success, and building the systems that help the business grow. That was exactly the stage I wanted to be part of.”
Alongside the business opportunity, the market itself was a major draw.
“What Sprout does is something insurers are actively investing in. There’s a clear business case and it’s a genuine need-to-have product, which makes it an exciting place to be in a sales role.”
But ultimately, it was the people that made the decision easy.
“During the interview process, I met a lot of the people I’d be working with day to day, and we clicked immediately. There was real hunger across the team and a shared drive to help Sprout win.”
A leadership team open to ideas
One moment during the interview process stood out in particular.
“Meeting Roi, our CEO, for the first time really confirmed that this was the right place for me. I was impressed by how he thought about the business opportunity and the vision he had for executing on it.”
What resonated most was the collaborative mindset behind that vision.
“It felt like a business with a strong direction, but also one where ideas were welcomed and where I could genuinely influence and help shape the future of the company.”
Growing alongside the business
Since joining, Charlie has stepped into his biggest role to date, leading Sprout.ai’s North America Go-to-Market function.
“This is the kind of role I’ve always wanted to operate in. Sprout trusted me with that opportunity, and I’ve had the chance to prove myself while taking on challenges I hadn’t tackled before.”
For Charlie, one of the biggest opportunities at Sprout is the amount of runway available to people who are willing to step up and grow.
“There’s so much opportunity in front of anyone who joins here. If you’re willing to stretch yourself and take ownership, you can move into the kinds of roles and problems you want to be solving in your career.”
Learning through mentorship and experience
Growth at Sprout.ai is supported both internally and externally, with access to leadership, mentorship, and development opportunities.
“I get a lot of time with Roi, who’s been hugely supportive, and the business has also invested in external leadership training to help me continue developing.”
Charlie has also benefited from experienced advisors and leadership support across the business.
“We brought in a fractional Head of Sales who’s been incredibly enabling, and I’ve had the opportunity to work with industry advisors whenever I’ve needed outside expertise.”
Alongside his own development, Charlie has found mentoring others equally rewarding.
“Being able to support and mentor people across the business is something I really enjoy.”
Creating impact in a growing market
What motivates Charlie most is the opportunity to help both the business and the people around him succeed.
“I love winning, but more importantly I love enabling others to win. The market opportunity Sprout has is huge, and everyone can see the potential of what we’re building.”
That opportunity has already translated into tangible impact.
“One of the biggest wins for me was identifying a new line of business for us and closing a deal that helped expand Sprout into a completely new area of the market. It was a significant moment for the team and helped support our growth in the US.”
Looking ahead, Charlie is excited by the potential for Sprout’s technology to expand across additional insurance lines.
“We’re currently working on expanding into automotive, which will make the product even more transferable across different lines of business. Ultimately, that means faster and more accurate claims decisions for policyholders.”
Collaboration, trust, and “Sproutouts”
For Charlie, one of the defining characteristics of Sprout’s culture is the willingness people have to support each other beyond their own responsibilities.
“The culture is highly collaborative. People are always willing to go outside their lane to help solve problems, and there’s strong cross-functional collaboration across the business.”
That trust and autonomy also stand out.
“People are given a lot of trust to execute and take ownership, often doing things they haven’t done before. But you’re never expected to figure things out alone, the support and collaboration are always there.”
And then there are the smaller moments that reflect the company culture.
“We have our own ‘Sprout-isms’ too. One of my favourites is that we give each other ‘Sproutouts’ instead of shoutouts when someone does great work. It’s a small thing, but it says a lot about the team.”
Most valuable lesson
The biggest lesson Charlie has taken from his time at Sprout is the value of stepping outside your comfort zone.
“I’ve learned that if you want to create real impact, you have to be willing to get your hands dirty, step outside your lane, and take risks. Sprout really rewards people who are proactive and willing to stretch themselves.”
Advice for future Sprouts
So what advice would Charlie give to someone considering joining Sprout.ai?
“Be proactive. Don’t be afraid to go beyond your role, solve bigger problems, and explore areas where you think you can make an impact. If you’re willing to take ownership and take risks, there’s a huge amount of opportunity here.”
